Some October Noir

Guess I don't have to keep these under wraps any more...

Here are some black and white interior and concept images from a cancelled middle-grade book project. Obviously, these were further iterations of this project, through multiple publishers, multiple written versions, and several visual overhauls. I don't think there's much of a chance of me doing any of these versions as a completed book, any time soon, for a number of reasons outside my control, so this seems like a good place, and a good time to share 'em. It seems there is a life for the book itself (in some form) still, just not with me doing the illustrations; so here they are.

This is only a small sample of the images made, so maybe I'll share some more some time, as an interesting further look into the process of making (and, ultimately, not making) a book for young readers. Who knows what the ultimate takeaway from the experience is, but one is definitely that this whole process, and business, is a marathon, not a sprint, and patience is needed. Also, you have to get attached to your projects, but, you know, not too attached...

Thoughts, illustrators? Or, readers, writers, or editors?
