Galvanize! Democracy Fundraiser: Design for a Cause, Part One...

Text of the poster print reads:

SOCIALIZE
ORGANIZE
ENERGIZE
VOCALIZE
MOBILIZE
GALVANIZE

DEMOCRACY CAN ONLY WORK WITH AN INVOLVED POPULACE

Text and design by Mark Mattson, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, 2016.

All proceeds from the sale of this poster print directly benefit progressive social causes, including the American Civil Liberties Union (www.aclu.org), National Organization for Women (www.now.org), The Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org), and Planned Parenthood (www.plannedparenthood.org).

Printed on archival, heavyweight matte paper, using archival inks. Print is ready to frame, if desired, generously sized at 18" X 24", easily fitting into standard frames. I am printing this first batch myself personally, on a large-scale, photographic-quality printer. Thanks so much to those who have already purchased one! Future runs may be printed by another professional, fantastic outfit; I'll let you know ahead of time.

Print is unframed, rolled, and safely tubed to ship. Please request if you'd like it signed in pencil.

Democracy is for all of us. Get involved, and stay involved; we need you. Hope this helps a little. It's one little thing I could think of doing. Stay tuned for more.

If we all do little things, they can become pretty big, right? (I can't wait to see what you do.)

Purchase a print here, from my shop:

If you'd like to just donate to these causes directly, and skip the poster, my god, please do! That's highly recommended as well; links are above.

UPDATE:

Custom sizes and framing options are now available over at my Society6 page, for those who want additional print and display options. All proceeds still go to charity.

Re: Election: 2016:

Hell yes, I'm mad. Shouldn't we all be?

But I have resolve.

And I see that many of us also have a newfound resolve to make our democracy ours, not just once every two or four years, but all the time. And maybe that's what it takes. I'm very encouraged by people wanting to take part in things that we should have taken a much bigger part in all these years, and if that's what it took to see things we should have seen all this time, then so be it. This election, and many littler political aggressions against everyday people piling up over time, have largely gone by without any resistance, because most of us haven't really been bothered to really take much part. It's not what most of us believe, it's just that many of us good voting-eligible folks just don't go and do it, and just don't pay that much attention overall. Please don't tell me that nonsense about "I'm just not a political person". Bet you just might be now! Or you better be, at least: lots of us not being "political" is what allowed someone who got less than a third of all the eligible votes into the White House.

Not all of us, of course: I have so much respect for those who have always called their elected officials, who have always marched against injustices, and have always researched their local community and state candidates running for office, no matter how small the office seems, and volunteered for those they believed in, and given money to causes that need them, to help make our democracy work for everyone, not just those in power, or those with the most money, and influence. And that's what it takes, from the ground up, every election we see: pick the people that speak to you. Be the people who run for office, why the hell not? By the looks of it, it takes literally no experience, don't worry, you'll pick it up.

This election hurts. A ton. Lots of beliefs and assumptions about decency in governing and checks and balances have been shaken to the core. Lots of people have been hurting for a long time, and are not that surprised, and this is a very dangerous time for them especially, and for us all. But hurt and anger can be a gift, if it motivates. Let this time be a shock, when we needed a shock. Complacency and indifference is what got us here. It won't get us out.

We need to motivate each other, and help each other. The people who say average people can't make a difference won't be the ones that make a difference.

Let's not agonize any more. Let's organize. I believe in us.

See you at The Women's March on Washington, to start? Hope so.
